When my grand daughter said, I have a new dish for you and your blog, I have to admit, I was skeptical. First of all she called it a smoothie bowl and I am not over the moon about smoothies….but… nothing ventured, nothing gained. right???? She called to make sure I had 2 cups of chopped strawberries and 2 cups of chopped bananas in the freezer and then she brought over a little thermos of naked juice mixed with a teeny tiny amount of almond milk. Her mom has a wonderful blender and I have a bullet, an emersion blender and a food processor. Hmmm which one to use?? We started in the Bullet and quickly switched to emersion blender and I think this is where I will stay going forward.
Here is the GREAT NEWS!! It reminds me of ice cream…tastes like ice cream, satisfies like ice cream but has no dairy or sugar so it’s the best of Healthy!!! If you’re watching you daily fruits and veggies, you just knocked off 2 servings of fruits. Win Win!! The amount of liquid you add to the berries is never more than 1/4 cup and less is more so add slowly. You want the finished product to be thick. (Not something you can sip through a straw!!) Spoon worthy!!!! 🙂
You can blend until smooth..but… we didn’t. We left some texture in our mix and while I thought this might send my teeth over the edge, it didn’t! There is frozen fruit in the freezer section of your grocery so having the fruit on hand is easy. You can use any 2 kinds of fruit…Be creative and use your favorites: pineapple, mango, raspberries cherries etc.
Any left overs can be stored in the freezer but it will get very hard. You can soften with 10-12 seconds in the microwave.
All you need:
4 cups of frozen fruit…. 2 cups of each kind you choose
1/4 c. juice with splash of almond milk or all juice. We used Naked Juice but any juice will work.
A blender or emersion blender
