The only kind of sweetener my daughter can have is pure maple syrup so I came up with an experiment to see if a baked apple dish, without sugar, would appeal to the Thanksgiving crowd. SUCCESS!!!! My grand daughter arranged the slices for curb appeal and a cute pie dish completed the picture. I have a foodie Ninja that can dehydrate so I dehydrated some grapes to add some sweetness to the apples. Dehydrating fruit intensifies the sweetness and a partially dehydrated grape is extra sweet and juicy. I cut each grape into quarters so the grapes didn’t take over the apples and then placed randomly. I used Honey Crisp apples for their natural sweetness. This dish is layered (3) with the following deliciousness:
7 Honey Crisp apples, peeled and sliced ( these were the bagged apples that are much smaller than the individual apples sold.)
A sprinkling of dehydrated grape quarters
A drizzle of pure maple syrup (we did as lightly heavier drizzle on the second (inside) layer)
A light powdering of cinnamon
An even sprinkling of chopped pecans
REPEAT 2 MORE TIMES
ADD
1/4 c. water (This helps steam the apples and keep them moist)
BAKE
350 for 1 hour We made and baked this the day before and just heated it through for the Thanksgiving dinner. We stored this in the fridge till we were ready to reheat. If you have any left overs, refrigerate.
