This is a staple in our household and in my daughter’s households and pretty much everyone we have given the recipe to. They are easy to mix up. They are the perfect answer to a healthy snack. They are sweet enough that kids like them too and they are an easy grab out of the frig when you’re on the fly. I am going to give you the basic recipe and as a side, throw in some of the tweaks we have made over the years. So far, we haven’t found a way to mess these up. Some people cook theirs on the stove top. I do not cook mine. I just throw it all together and mix it up, make balls and store in the frig. The cooked protein balls have a slightly different texture so you may have to try it both ways and see what you and your family like better. I like mine a tiny bit drier and not as sweet so they go with my coffee better. Know that both ways are good and will not go to waste!!!
1 c. peanut butter (either smooth or crunchy)
1/2 c. agave syrup (The original recipe calls for 1 cup of honey. I am not crazy about honey and it was way too sweet for me. I know my daughter uses 1/2 c. pure maple syrup and they are mighty tasty)
1 c. old fashioned rolled oats
3/4 c. ground flax seed (I’m pretty sure the orginal recipe did not have flax in it.. It had 1/2 c. wheat germ. I needed something Gluten free) We have also used the Omega heart mixture and even chia seeds if you like a little crunch.
3 scoops of your favorite protein powder. They have vegan protein powder if you are looking for that and it is Gluten Free. “Costco”
*If I use a vanilla powder I add 1/3 c. cocoa powder because I like chocolate.. Mostly, I use a chocolate protein powder. There are 100 calories per ball based on 30 per recipe. Do not eat more than 2 a day as they are fairly high in Carbs.
I love those peanut butter balls but I keep eating them. 🤪
I love love your wine loving vegan web site. You have done a great job.
Whoo hoo Lynn…. so glad you like the protein balls!!! They should be limited to 2 a day (IF NEEDED) to get you through to the next meal. They are NOT the meal. ha!! 🙂
